Why go
Ouzoud is Morocco’s most famous waterfall, dropping around 110 metres in several tiers into a green canyon of olive trees. It is a refreshing contrast to the dry plains.
The visit
- Arrive at the top, with viewpoints over the falls.
- Walk down the stepped trail (about 20–30 minutes) past cafés and stalls.
- Take a small boat ride near the base.
- Have lunch by the river; walk back up or follow the trail on the other side.
Barbary macaques
Wild macaques live around the falls. Watch them, but do not feed or touch them; it harms their health and can make them aggressive. The species is endangered — see Barbary macaque.
Tips
- Spring (March–May) has the most water.
- Weekends in summer are busy with Moroccan families.
- Wear trainers; paths can be slippery.
- It is a long day — leave early.
