The route
The N9 road climbs through Berber villages to the Tizi n’Tichka pass (about 2,260 m), then descends to the pre-Saharan valleys. Viewpoints along the way are breathtaking.
Aït Ben Haddou
The Ksar of Aït-Ben-Haddou is a striking group of earthen buildings and a famous filming location. Climb to the granary at the top for the view.
Ouarzazate
Some tours add Ouarzazate and its film studios or the Taourirt kasbah — making the day longer.
Tips
- Leave early (7 am) and expect to return after dark.
- Motion sickness? The pass has many curves.
- Winter can bring snow on the pass; check conditions.
- Consider a 2-day trip with a night in the valleys.
